Jon Atherton

Jon Atherton was born in Brisbane , brought up mainly in Melbourne schooled at Wesley College and RMIT (briefly)

Jon Atherton joined the Army reserve and then moved into the commando signals unit 126 Signal Squadron Special Forces.

After the Commando unit and some full time duty Jon Atherton decided to join the Regular Army and went to Duntroon in 1986, graduating a lieutenant in 1987. Jon Atherton progressed through a series of units in the army including 7 Signal Regiment Cabarlah just outside Toowoomba, then 1 Signal Regiment, and 4 Signal Regiment. He moved into his own business in 1991 after the Army – he decided to do something for himself!

1995 saw the internet start to blossom and so did many business opportunities, particularly in software development. Jon Atherton built a business running and maintaining the banking and advertising networks for many of the world’s biggest websites. These sites often had millions of visitors per day. Many of these purely business relationships with site operators caused problems with the banking network, they became too aggressive in their marketing tactics. A search of the web often returns some pretty nasty results for Jon and it is almost impossible to shut these down, they are written by disgruntled site operators who had their accounts terminated when they caused problems for Jon.

Jon Atherton’s interests have wandered from his business to property development and car racing and collecting. Another large part of his activities goes into charity work and promotion, a few years ago he was practically bald for 4 weeks after raising a good deal of money for the Leukaemia Foundation – one of the charities he supports thru his charity donations. Jonothan Atherton is also pretty keen skier

In 2002 Jon Atherton decided that Tarmac Rallies were the way to go and he’s shown a certain degree of skill – finishing 19th in his first competitive event Rally Tasmania, still a bit behind Paul in 12th and a ways of Jim Richards who seems to have these events pretty much sewn up! Completed Targa once, and blew the engine to bits second time round... first time rolled onto the roof

Jon Atherton is married and has 3 children
